People who bet on sports have been following the Boston Red Sox’ managerial roller coaster for the past few weeks. Names like Mike Maddux and Sandy Alomar have been thrown around as the potential next skipper of Boston. But Red Sox Nation finally learned this week that it will be the 61-year-old Bobby Valentine who will take over for the departed Terry Francona as the head man of the Boston Red Sox.
Valentine first appeared as the manager of the Texas Rangers, and the price per head bookmaking experts immediately took notice as he started to win games. Then Valentine moved on to find success and failure as the manager of the New York Mets. When his stint with the Mets was over, Valentine managed in Japan before heading to the broadcast booth. Now he is the new manager of the Boston Red Sox, and it is a job he had campaigned for in the public eye for weeks.
The Kansas City Royals desperately needed help in the bullpen, and it looks like they got it with the signing of reliever Jonathan Broxton. At 6-foot-4 and weighing 300 pounds, Braxton would be something that Kansas City NFL fans would like to see on the field. But after a lengthy negotiating process, Braxton has decided to bring his talents to the Kansas City bullpen that could really use the help. Braxton had most recently played for the Los Angeles Dodgers but spent much of last season on the sidelines with a sore elbow. He says he feels fine now and is ready to produce for the Royals.
